Schoolkids On The March

Today (Tue 30/11/10)  a march of school and college pupils will go on the march to protest against the looming Coalition education cuts. Schools and colleges attending include Oasis, Redbridge, Regents Park, Park Bellemoore and Tauntons College.

The march will start at 12.30 pm at Shirley Precinct followed by Shirley High Street, and finishing at Southampton Guildhall outside the new Council offices. At the Guildhall will be a number of other schools and colleges, and also some university students.

This is part of a nationwide day of action called as a follow up to last Wednesdays walk-outs and rallies, and predominately organised by the NCAFC (National Campaign Against Fees and Cuts).

This day will be an impressive show of solidarity; and will demonstrate that ‘youth of today’ are as involved with politics, and indeed their futures, as any adult voters.  TDB wishes luck to those marching, and hopes that their efforts will make a difference.

About 100 pupils and students attended the march, headed through Shirley into West Quay, Marlands and several banks, chanting. The message of the day was “TSB, pay for me!”

Southampton Students Against Cuts will be planning their next steps, with an open meeting in The Nuffield Theatre tonight (30/11/10) at 7pm- all welcome.
